Watery landings

With the ditching in the Hudson dominating the news, I decided to look up an incident that I remembered from my boyhood, where a JAL airliner ended up landing in San Francisco Bay. A good account of the surprisingly smooth landing can be found here.

Driving down to Manhattan this Saturday, it was striking to see how much ice there was in the Hudson. Yet one more bit of luck that there was a patch of open water to land in.

That is an interesting observation. I wonder how ice would have affected the emergency landing.

By the way, I have been reading your blog for years, although I seldom if ever comment, and I want to say, keep it up! I know you don't get a lot of comments, but you ARE read, and I appreciate the insight you bring to your posts. Even if you are linking other content, you usually have something thoughtful to add.

You are not just talking down a well.

Thanks for the kind words.
In case you were concerned, any recent posting slowdowns have had less to do with discouragement than overcommitment. Good overcommitment, I hasten to add: family, community, work, and a new business, to put it succinctly.
