Stolen Riace bronzes?
The riddle of an alleged theft from Italy's famed Riace bronzes has resurfaced 35 years after they were lifted from the Calabrian seabed. Not seen by the public, that is. Full article here.A photo of the 1972 find has reignited speculation that the two figures were stripped of a shield and possibly other objects - and even a companion who has never been seen.

Lots of mystery here, including how they got into the water in the first place.
But not much meat. A [maybe] missing shield, which may have been missing for centuries? The original finder saying "group" [at first] but only two [later] recovered? And these things questioned at the time, thirty-five years ago?
There is a bit of real news [again, maybe] in that metal has been remotely detected in the area, and might just be the shield or some other related object. If anything of the sort is recovered, I hope to see a follow-up.
