Porca miseria

The world's gone mad:

A story based on the Three Little Pigs has been turned down from a government agency's annual awards because the subject matter could offend Muslims.
Interestingly, no mention of concern regarding potential offense to Jews, whose dietary restrictions are much the same.
The digital book, re-telling the classic fairy tale, was rejected by judges who warned that "the use of pigs raises cultural issues". . .

The judging panel also attacked the book's stereotyping of builders.

Another notoriously touchy group, those builders. The panel assumes they will be up in arms over being represented as pigs, two-thirds of whose work falls apart with a huff and a puff.

Hmm... Better get rid of Mother Goose books, which usually have a woman on the cover who is NOT wearing a burka or even a hijab. Worse, the story of the lady who lived in a shoe often does not even have her hair covered - not to mention bringing up thoughts of birth control methods/effectivity, offending Roman Catholics.

Oh, and builders must resent the story about that tower of Babel, so get rid of any book that includes it.

That's because we assume that Jews will act like grown-ups.

The limits of phony political and supposed "relgio-ethnic" correctness continue to be tested. One suspects that the bizarre views of looney groups such as scientology, or perhaps practioners of witchcraft or zombie cults should be considered as well. Let us then ban the showing of the Wizard of Oz and perhaps Mr. Cruise will sue folks for pointing out that scientological foundations were discussed and strategized by science fiction writers L. Ron Hubbard and L. Sprague DeCamp one day over lunch. Whether one cares to believe "pig stories" are "unclean" or that a so-called prophet ascended to heaven on the back of a white horse near a meteror that is worshipped, or that the Earth sits atop a giant turtle and it is turtles all the way down, is just fine and dandy and anyone's right in this democracy. That is, as long as it does not interfere with my right or anyone else's right to read, say or believe anything we wish to believe. America and the western democracies cannot allow silliness to destroy our freedoms from without or within. Whether the threat is from Moslem or evangelical or just silly cultist notions, freedom of expression and thought is more important than political correctness.
