The science of boomerangs: here's an article in Popular Mechanics, though it is as much about the making of them as the science behind it all.
The World Boomerang Championships will be in Seattle in 2008.

I've always been struck by the paradox that the Aborigines were one of the more backward peoples met by the Europeans as they explored the world, but that they had the boomerang and the woomera. Perhaps backwardness isn't a one-dimensional property.
