John Wilkes Booth escaped?

Whether it's Anastasia or Billy the Kid, there's always a contingent that wants to believe they got away. And now a reader forwards a link to an article about a couple of men convinced that John Wilkes Booth escaped, too.

Good luck to 'em, I say -- but don't count on the history books being rewritten anytime soon. It will be interesting if they manage to locate that mummy formerly trotted about as Booth's.

Maybe they're hanging out with Elvis. At the risk of being iconoclastic, may I ask, "Who cares?"

Actually, Sarah, I do, although it's not as though it were one of the burning questions of the age or anything. But I think it's fascinating to think of him living out his years undetected. Maybe it's the romantic in me.

I have to admit, I've wondered for years about Booth's death. What little I know about it doesn't seem very well documented, and I've always wondered if he got away.
