Funeral strippers crackdown

Five people have been detained in China for running striptease send-offs at funerals, state media say.

The once-common events are held to boost the number of mourners, as large crowds are seen as a mark of honour.

But the arrests, in the eastern province of Jiangsu, could signal the end of the rural tradition.

Why don't they emulate the fine Roman tradition of hiring mourners? Romans used to hire a "clown" who was free to research the deceased's life and act out any outrageous bits he found. The more outrageous, the better. Drew crowds of strangers, eager for dirty doings and lewd lascivious lusts. Usually it was pretty tame stuff, accompanied by japes and capering about, for entertainment. Of the living, not the dead.
