Tabarrok the Intercessor

Even an infinitesimal chance at an infinite good is worth your attention -- so says Pascal's Wager. Alex Tabarrok attempts to take the wager to the next level, proposing for those who accept Pascal:

For a fee of all your wealth I will use my line to God to put in a word on your behalf. I assert that individuals for whom I put in a good word are more likely to enter heaven and receive everlasting joy than are other individuals. . .
Supporting tables and calculations follow, along with a thorough treatment of possible objections.

Except this one: what if one allows the possibility that Alex's (bought) intercession might actually harm one's standing with the Divine?

Well, yes - it sounds like simony to me!

Can you say, "indulgences"?

Pascal's implicit assumption was that God was Catholic. What has paralyzed me is that there are several religions out there that are mutually exclusive but adamant that theirs is the only true God. I don't know which God to pick, and the religions don't permit one to hedge one's bet by assembling a well-diversified portfolio.
