A new Matisse for MOMA

A rich and hypnotic interior by Matisse whose whereabouts had been unknown to scholars in recent decades has been purchased for the Museum of Modern Art by its new president, Marie-Josée Kravis, and her husband, the financier Henry Kravis.

The 1948 work, "The Plum Blossoms," is part of the last series of paintings created by Matisse before he died in 1954. It has not been on public view since 1970, when it was lent for an exhibition at the Grand Palais in Paris,

From the NY Times.

My understanding is that Matisse died in 1954 and is buried in Cimiez, but then I am no art scholar.

Sorry, couldn't resist being a wiseass.
