Paleoanthropological legerdemain

Isn't it amazing what genetic analysis is telling us about human origins? But wait -- how many of the "discoveries" touted in academic journals (and duly summarized in the NY Times et al) rest upon the piling of hypothesis upon hypothesis? John Hawks tears into two papers in the current edition of Science. The results aren't pretty.
