Macclesfield Psalter: what's in a name
Perhaps this is another case of a comment being overreported on a slow news day. In any event, today's Scotman is reporting that the Macclesfield Psalter might be renamed after its original patron, if that can be determined.
Color me doubtful; unless there are some key pages I'm unaware of, the internal heraldic evidence is hardly dispositive and there aren't any useful added inscriptions to go by. Considering that the Psalter spent a good chunk of its life in the library of the Earls of Macclesfield, which was also the site of its dramatic discovery, the name it bears is an honorable one.
