Myopic seeing-eye dogs

Scientists investigating the health of guide dogs have made an alarming discovery: sometimes the blind are leading the blind.

According to a new study, at least one in 10 working guide dogs is seriously short-sighted. Some of the so-called seeing dogs have such poor vision that they would be prescribed glasses if they were human, researchers found.

From the Telegraph.

Once a young seeing eye dog has been partially trained, but for some reason (like poor eyesight) it cannot perform intended tasks, what happens? Can you, a sighted person, buy it? I have a multi-handicapped daughter and I would very much like some information on who to contact about this.

I am also wondering if a dog does not complete the course or is found to have health problems after the training can some one purchase the dog?
Thanks
Nick
