Macclesfield Psalter sells

I only have the sale price at this point -- GBP 1,500,000 (1,685,600 with buyer's commission). Previous posts here; more to follow.

UPDATE: Looks like a strong showing for the nine Macclesfield items in today's Western Manuscripts sale: most items went for several times high estimate. Buyer for the Psalter is listed as "European Trade", so likely some partnership of major dealers.

Another highlight that I had meant to note, but not from Macclesfield, was the consular diptych that was purchased for GBP 767,200 by the Ministry of Culture of Spain. The catalog entry is here; consular diptychs don't come on the market very often at all -- this one last changed hands in 1987, and likely will never do so again.

Gosh.

The idea that one could HAVE a consular diptych! And so reasonably, given that they are an absurdly rare commodity.
