Easter Rising museum proposed
The leaders of the Easter Rising in 1916 are to be commemorated in a new museum, the first of its kind dedicated to the rebellion. From the Sunday Times.Dublin city council is to approach the government about earmarking a site, close to the General Post Office on Dublin’s O’Connell Street, that would house the exhibition.
The museum would display artefacts belonging to the leaders of the Rising, including their uniforms and medals. It would also house documents telling the story of Ireland’s fight for independence from Britain. . .
The National Museum and a section of the GPO display some items collected from the 1916 Rising including the Proclamation and military equipment used by the Irish soldiers, but there is no museum dedicated to the fight — the most romanticised moment in Irish history.
Dublin city council is hoping it will be able to provide a more extensive exhibition that would explain the run-up to the bloody showdown at the GPO, the reading of the Proclamation and rule for an independent Ireland. . .
The National Museum said it would welcome a 1916 museum but pointed out that it had not been approached by Dublin City Council.

Its long overdue, often thought a statue of Padraig Pearse situated outside the GPO reading the Proclomation would be a good idea
