Ugg boot battle
What is it about trademarks lately? Now US-based Deckers is trying to wrest the name "ugg boots" -- long a generic label -- from their Australian originators. To add insult to injury, Deckers' is selling under the name Ugg Australia (apparently originally a California importer, purchased lock, stock, and barrel). Where are these boots actually made? The website doesn't say, but from all reports most are being cranked out in China.
No boots from Ugg Australia for us, thank you very much. Real Australian uggs are better made and cheaper, too.

Thank you. Bastards they are, bastards.
Coupla facts - ugg boots here in Melbourne are totally but totally declasse. Prolewear. (but secretly we all think they are comfy). Sheepskin moccasins are the bottom of the barrel, leading to the outer suburban "moccachick".
I noticed a couple of years ago in a New York shoe shop that North Americans also wear Blundstones. We love them too, but they are very cheap.

I just came back from a trip to Sydney, and my wife said that all the available locally-made ugg boots she tried on were poorly-made and relatively uncomfortable compared to their corporate American counterparts.

As a reasonably new ecommerce starter in the 'ugg boot' field, I sell boots made of genuine Merino sheepskins. The reason they are so comfortable is because of the natural insulation of the wool. They let your feet breathe and not sweat and get smelly. The imitations made in China do not have this facility and are very uncomfortable because the material becomes hard with the moistness that is trapped within.
As an Australian attempting to gain in the internet market it is very difficult because Deckers Ugg Australia is an American multi national company with the money to monopolise most of the search engines thereby keeping out the small Australian home business trying to make an honest living.
