Death and taxes

A tax official who died at his desk in Helsinki went unnoticed by colleagues for two days. The man, a tax auditor in his 60s, died last Tuesday while checking tax returns. . .

According to the Finnish tabloid newspaper Ilta-Sanomat, co-workers assumed the dead man was silently poring over returns. There were about 100 other staff in the auditing department on the same floor the dead tax official worked on.

That's mildly amusing, especially in light of Shrub's pledge last night to abolish the death tax in the US....

Urban myth? I first heard this story, told about a British civil servant, in the early 1970s.

Urban Legends says:

Claim: A man who died at his office desk went unnoticed by his co-workers for five days.

Status: False.

America, Canada, England, Finland. For an employee who dies at his post and refuses to fall down, he sure manages to get around.
