What could be more important than blogging?

Having a new baby, for one. Louisa Nishimura was born this afternoon and weighed in at a strapping 11 lbs 3 oz (a bit over 5 kg). Mother and daughter are resting peacefully; the delivery was smooth, though very hard work indeed. No more posts for a few days at least -- family time!

A formidable person, without a doubt:

LOUISA f English
Pronounced: loo-EEZ-a
Latinate feminine form of LOUIS

LOUIS m French, English
Pronounced: loo-EE (French), LOO-is (English)
French form of LUDWIG. This was the name of 18 kings of France, including Louis IX (Saint Louis) who led two crusades, and Louis XIV (the 'Sun King') who was the ruler of France during the height of its power, the builder of the Palace of Versailles, and the longest reigning monarch in the history of Europe. Also, Louis Riel was a Canadian rebel leader. Robert Louis Stevenson was the author of 'Treasure Island' and 'Doctor Jekyll and Mr Hyde'.

LUDWIG m German
Pronounced: LOOT-vik, LUD-wig
From the Germanic name Hludwig which meant "famous warrior", composed of the elements hlud "fame" and wig "warrior". Ludwig van Beethoven, the German composer, was a well known bearer of this name. Also, Ludwig Wittgenstein was an Austrian philosopher who contributed to logic and the philosophy of language.

From Behind the Name.

Thanks to all! So far, so good -- big babies do tend to sleep well, so time for a few posts here and there. . . .
