Dean the cowboy

I don't pretend to know if the flap over Howard Dean's mention of the Confederate flag will hurt his presidential aspirations. I will predict, though, that this New York Times interview will come back to haunt him big time if he gets the Democratic nomination:

"When people get in my face, I tend to get in theirs," Dr. Dean said. . . "Al Sharpton was in my face last night and I was not going to step one step, half a step, backwards, and I don't care who's in my face.

"I tend to be reflective rather later than sooner," he added. "Now, unfortunately, we all know that nobody's personality is perfect. So the things that make me a strong candidate are also my Achilles' heel."

Thus admitting an intemperate pugnacity, while demonstrating a rather pronounced lack of judgment -- in what he said in the interview, if not in what prompted the interview in the first place.

Truly a "vexing" problem.
