Inca wall torn down in Lima
A Frenchman tore down part of an ancient Inca wall to build a hotel in the Peruvian city of Cusco, capital of the Inca empire, that he ironically wanted to call "The Archeologist," El Comercio newspaper said on Sunday.Read the full story here. This was no ordinary wall: Inca masonry is fabled for its use of massive blocks, often complex polygonal solids, fitted together with astonishing precision without the use of mortar. A series of illustrations is here. The paper said Joel Raymund was planning to slap up a concrete wall in place of the large, finely cut bricks that had been there since before the 16th century Spanish conquest.

The sad thing about this guy is, not only is he moron with no sense of history, he's also a poor businessman. I imagine that many tourists would pay a lot more to stay at a hotel with a genuine Incan wall incorporated into its design.
