Looter makes good

An Iraqi man who looted one of Saddam Hussein's bedrooms is claiming his girlfriend was so impressed she married him.

Omar Heder removed the mahogany bed, mattress and sheets from Saddam's five-storey palace in Baghdad the day after the capital fell to US forces. Mr Heder, 35, says his girlfriend had been stalling on marriage for 10 years. . .

The looter's haul also included Saddam's marble dressing table, a silk paisley dressing gown, size nine slippers, some gilded cupboard doors and a vase. . .

He is quoted as saying: "When [my girlfriend] saw the bed she thought it was a sign from God we should get married after all. I'm very happy. Fate has finally been good to me and Saddam's bed has helped me become a better man."
