Middle Ages vs Renaissance, continued

An elegant post over at Ideofact, in continuation of the thread begun here (and wandering, among other places, here and here): Bill Allison neatly points out how Leonardo (and all he embodied) was scorned by the would-be revivers of Antiquity, as was Galileo later vis a vis the Aristotelians. Notable quote:

I think one of the reasons Medievalists get bothered by "all hail the Renaissance" cheerleading is that so many Renaissance figures fell for a kind of nutball new age antiquity that a rational man of today would find incomprehensible.
