Major Victorian painting to San Francisco

On Thursday afternoon, the Trustees of the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco were informed by director Harry Parker that he had acquired Love and the Maiden, a monumental painting by the Victorian artist John Roddam Spencer Stanhope. Love and the Maiden is considered Stanhope's masterpiece and was bought for the Californian Palace of the Legion of Honor, a Beaux Arts-style museum that overlooks the Golden Gate Bridge, to strengthen its holdings of Victorian art.
