Sagrestia Nuova reopened
Michelangelo's New Sacristy, one of Florence's famed attractions, has been reopened to the public ahead of schedule. The sacristy, attached to the Medici church of San Lorenzo, was closed three years ago after a three-kilo piece of marble from the lantern broke loose and fell some 50 meters to the floor. Luckily this occurred at night, for during most of the day the sacristy is packed with tourists.
NOTE: Probably all over the news already, but an art historian who has examined Michelangelo's bank statements notes that the artist died a very wealthy man, despite playing the part of the impoverished artist.
Actually, this shouldn't be a very big surprise, given the obvious splendor of the Casa Buonarrotti -- this was clearly a very successful family.
