Bones in Miami
Scientists have found two human bones among the Indian ruins recovered from a downtown Miami construction site, a possible indication that decapitations may have occurred in the area. The area in question being the Miami Circle, a site carved out over 2000 years ago.
The two bones, both vertebrae, were found in the east side of the 38-foot circle, fueling a theory that severed heads may have been placed toward the water in an attempt to scare off possible enemies. "It kind of takes the warm, fuzzy aspect out of the circle," said archaeologist David Carr, who helped discover the area in 1998.
And here's a more detailed article.
